A Glimpse into my Husband's Humor

The following is a letter my dear hubby wrote to his former co-workers the day he found out he would be leaving them:

Well Guys,

I wanted to thank everyone for the times we have spent together over the last year here. I’ve learned so much from each of you and have hopefully made your life miserable on the way. Well, the good news is that it’s finally over, and you can be rid of me. I’ll likely still drop in now and then, especially to fill scripts for food.
Stop by East Genesee, I’ll buy you a Thingamajig

It’s been a ball and I’ll miss working with each and every one of you.

David, or Kepler, or Cookie-man, or ‘that jerk’

PS Listen to Mrs. Wood, she’s not half as bad as I kept insisting she was

Books, Books, Books!!!

I am so behind on the book thing but have been doing really well with my goal to read 21 books to the kids each week. I am just not great on posting my favorites!

1. The Empty Pot by Demi
Love this book about the importance of honesty and integrity.

2. The Snowmen at Night
The kids loved looking for the hidden things inthe illustrations!

3. The Biggest Snowman
Little guys can do big things too!!!

A Means to an End!!!

Since our married life began we have lived a full life. By the time our 4 year anniversary came around we truly felt like we had been married for 20 years!

When we got married we started out with a 7 year old sweetie sealed to us in the temple. I owned and ran my own business. David worked count them 3 part time jobs and was going to school full time(luckily one of them turned out to be a full time gig). 9 months and 4 days after we were married we had our 2nd darling boy and 18 months after that our princess was born and 17 months later by our laid back boy arrived. We were married for 3 years and 8 months at that point. In that time we had 1 car accident(might I add that our one car was being towed to the shop when the accident occurred and then both of our cars were being towed at he same time), 2 surgeries, 3 broken bones, 2 sets of stitches, a hospitalized child, 2 additions, one kitchen and living room renovation-the stripped to the studs kind and the list could go on and on. We couldn't have been happier even with all the twists and turns along the way!!!

At one point I was a bit overwhelmed by it all and I was given some of the best advice by my Dad. He said something like ,"Remember this is a means to an end, there are only 6 more weeks of school and it is done. This is such a very small part of your life together and there is an end to it." This advice has been priceless for us.

When my honey graduated from school and we were trying to find a job, there were lots of decisions to make. We readily decided we were staying here which narrowed the job field tremendously. Options were few but we knew what direction he was headed in and I knew what this meant for us. Working weekends, nights, overnights, holidays, and a schedule that could not be relied upon from week to week but I knew what lied ahead and "this was a means to an end." It was decided and we have loved the company he has worked for despite all the craziness with his schedule. I quite enjoyed him being home some mornings or the 4 days off before overnights and the 3 days after. There were lots of pluses. He progressed relatively quickly in the company. Passing tests the first time others(including his bosses) would have to take 3-7 times, getting promotions quickly others would wait years to get and it all was heading in the direction we were both pleased and we could see the next step on his path and we knew it was more going to be like a big giant leap with all the factors in our world today!

Finally after the years of doing what we knew was right and sacrificing some sort of normalcy since our married life began and making the craziness of it all work....No more overnights! No more working on Sundays! No more working on Christmas! No more random schedules! Now we can look forward to Family Home Evening on Monday Nights(not the night it works best that particular week)! Going to church together every week. Holidays without interruption for a 4 hour shift. Dinner together every night. I am looking forward to our new life even though I will miss some of the perks of the old one!!! Congratulations Honey!!! I am so proud of you!!!

A New Fave

When I think of a mad scientist and then I think of their hair...currently I think of my little brain his hair is something else. From the middle of the top of his head forward wants to do just that fall forward and is thinner hair and from the middle of the top of his head it grows together like a kewpie doll and is thicker and on the crown of his head it grows in a swirl, thus leading to hair issues to say the least. I have shaved his hair short but it takes no time at all for the kewpie doll issue to begin and I have let it grow longer and thus the front is falling in his face.

After many hair putties, gels, pomades, and the like I have finally found the stuff to lick is hair issues in to shape.

AXE Clean Cut Look Pomade and it works magic on my little guys crazy hair and another great thing is you can get it free this month at Walgreen's!!!

Click on my blog and it will take you to a picture of my new favorite thing!!!

Cupid's Prom

The room we are in the midst of painting is the Princesses room. Did you know there are about a 1,000 pink paint colors ...well after a long deliberation our Pretty Pink Princess picked out Cupid Pink and Prom Pink so her room will be forever referred to as Cupid's Prom...JK! It will most likely be referred to as her Fancy Nancy room.

She currently at a request of herself and her older brother is sharing a room with him as well as her younger brother. Which has worked out fabulously!!! However she has been requesting a girly room as of late so goodbye home office dreams and hello girly girly sweet pink fancy room!

This is of course a huge process(which I can't even begin to explain the horrible carpentry skills that occurred in this room) and when completed I will of course post tons of before and afters as well as my new mini home office!

Adventures in Painting

I have painted many rooms in my life. Alone, with kids in the house(always an adventure), with help(of the grown up sort), but until today was a first I had the help of my children. They were so excited I was going to be painting they just had to help! I readily got my 6,5, and 3.5 year old dressed in painting duds and gave them each an area to paint. Now painting is a job when you do it alone but it is more of a job with extra helpers around. Here is what I learned:

* You have to paint over whatever they painted

* You have to make sure you know where they are in your working space at all times or you will be painting more than just walls

* Be ready to wipe up the floor at any moment

* It will take you twice as long...clean up of exra brushes and people plus painting around little helpers, fixing their drips etc...

* And last but not least they will have so much fun helping you do such an important job

Yes at times I thought I was going to lose my mind and possibly yell everyone out! Then the thought came to me if I were to lose my cool when they painted the back of my arm or got paint all over the floor what would I be teaching my little ones the Lord has entrusted me with? Working with mom is not fun, working is stressful, shame, they need to be perfect or I don't accept or even love them or do I want them to learn working together is fun, yes we spill(make mistakes) sometimes but we can fix it, the sense of accomplishment of a job well done, and even my mom loves me no matter what!!! Even though it was hard to paint with the little guys helping I am grateful for what we all learned in our Adventures in Painting!!!

A Conversation That You Do NOT Want to Have With Your Six Year Old Son!!!

*just a back story we went to the mall to eat with our Granny and she took my Brain and Princess with her to the bathroom and on the way home this is the conversation.

The Brain: Mom we found something in the bathroom where the glo sticks come out and we had to throw it away(Granny did let me know what they had discovered) Why?

Mom: It is not for kids.

The Brain: Who is it for?

Mom: Women(you will notice my answers are short because quite honestly I wanted it to end here but knew it wouldn't).

The Brain: What do women use it for?

Mom: To stop bleeding.

The Brain: Where does it stop the bleeding?

To be quite honest I was speechlessly searching for away out of this conversation at this point or a really good answer, a good car accident could have done the trick neither came.

Mom: It stops them from bleeding in their underwear.

The Brain: Oh their underwear...(very long pause and then with much alarm) Do boys need that!?!

Mom: No

The Brain: Good(you have no idea)

Thank goodness this is when we got home!!!

How Do You Know You Have a Girly Girl?

*at age 5 getting dressed is a full blown event, right down to the matching shoes and socks(but how hard is it to match PINK)

*out comes the hair box and so it begins what matches the outfit and works with how the hair is going to be done-pigtails, braids, pony tail and the list goes on and on....

*lip gloss is next

*nails painted

*body spray finishes the morning routine

I do have a girly girl! Which is great with a houseful of boys! However I had not imagined at her ripe old age of 5 I would be supervising the above everyday!

Our First Valentines Day

David did the sweetest thing our first Valentines Day! He bought Valentines cards for every year from when we would have been in Kindergarten together until the present Valentines Day! I had Valentines with Blues Clues on them and Winnie the Pooh to Teenage ones and then more sentimental ones at the end. He said I was always his Valentine and had to make up for all the years he couldn't find me! I wonder what Buckets of Love Inc has in store for today!?!

Kids say...........

The teen was around 7 and we went to Bronners around Christmas time and he found money on the ground and without hesitation he said we needed to give it to the lady at the counter. I must have looked surprised at his honesty and told him I was proud of him for making the right choice without being prompted. His response was just the pat on the back any mom needs...
"What do you expect you raised me right!"

Kids say.............

"Mom I want to help you hatch the eggs!"

The laid back boy

* as a side note yes I let him help me CRACK the eggs..it was so cute to see him knocking it on the counter and me saying a little harder and he did crack it then as I start to show him how to put his thumbs into the crack to open it he just squeezes it as hard as he can and cracked that thing right into the bowl no shell too...but a huge mess on both of our hands...Did I mention I LOVE BEING A MOM(honestly no sarcasm intended)!!!!!
